Zurich Development Center

As we reach a quarter-century milestone, it’s time to celebrate the incredible journey of the Zurich Development Center (ZDC) and reflect on its rich heritage and valuable contributions. A legacy that actually dates back to 1903 when it was founded as the well-known Bircher-Benner Clinic on the Zürichberg, a hill overlooking the city of Zurich.

Home to the Birchermuesli

The story of the ZDC begins with Dr. Maximilian Bircher-Benner, a visionary pioneer in holistic, natural healing. Dr. Bircher-Benner was ahead of his time, advocating for a harmonious balance between body, soul, and spirit. He believed that a healthy life and mind were rooted in diet, exercise, work, and spiritual peace. His clinic was a sanctuary where patients were encouraged to rethink their lifestyles and align with the "forces of nature" – air, water, sun, and earth. It was here, on our very campus, that the world-renowned Swiss Birchermuesli, was created, adding a delicious legacy to our history.

Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future

The campus of the Zurich Development Center, which Zurich acquired in 2018, is a beautiful blend of the past, the present and the future. It consists of the original Bircher-Benner Clinic, its three charming chalets, and Dr. Bircher-Benner’s private residence. Zurich’s commitment to preserving this heritage site is evident in the careful renovation of these historically protected buildings. While maintaining their original charm and integrity, we have also added modern, flexible spaces that foster innovation and growth. This harmonious blend of old and new creates an inspiring environment where the simple innovations of the past meet the complexities of tomorrow. It was designed as a place of inspiration, for people to come together, to learn, collaborate and develop new ideas, powering today's advancements and paving the way for tomorrow’s breakthroughs.
